The Enneagram

The Enneagram

The Enneagram is a method that helps us get to know and understand ourselves and others by describing 9 basic personality types, each perceiving the world throught their own “lenses” and dealing with their emotions and communicating with others in their own distinctive way. It also helps us understand the interaction between different personality types and promotes and facilitates understanding.

The origin of the Enneagram as well as its name Enneagram comes from Greek. “Ennea” means nine in Greek and Gramma something drawn or written.

Understanding our Enneagram type helps us to see why we behave the way they do, what are our virtues and what are our compulsions. Each type has a a belief system that motivates them to act a certain way and make certain decisions.

The Enneagram also helps us understand how we react to stress and provides us with opportunities for personal development.

Many might think that the billions of people on Earth cannot fall into just 9 personality types. What these people do not know is that there many other elements and nuances are taken into consideration leading to numerous combinations that can accurately describe each and every one of us.

I, personally, see the Enneagram as a double-edged sword. It can be an amazing tool in the hands of those who truly seek personal development and, at the same time, a lame excuse for those who are set in their ways and resist spiritual evolution as they can hide behind their type description and say “I cannot help it. It is in my nature…”
