The ego aka the good, the bad and the ugly

Μany people ask me “Why can’t I get rid of my ego?”

To my mind, there’s two types of ego:

  • The good (healthy) ego that helps us stay alive by alerting us of danger and making sure that our basic needs for survival are met.
  • The bad (unhealthy) ego that has us only think about our needs at the expense of other people.

The ugly truth is that it is very difficult for our subconscious mind to make the distinction between the healthy and the unhealthy ego fearing that, by letting go of either one, our survival is at risk.

We have to feel truly secure in ourselves to be able to get rid of the “bad” ego without having our subconscious mind sabotage the change. It takes determination and hard work but it’s worth the effort!
