The “here and now”
As I am in Gabon for sessions and trainings, I feel grateful the universe has granted my wish to find inner peace and to show people on the same quest that it is possible.
This morning I could not help but wonder how I got there. Me, travelling the world to spread the word that we all have an inner voice and that if we listen to it and act accordingly we can make our dreams come true. That when our feelings, our thoughts and are actions are in alignment with one another we can truly become authentic, find and accomplish our “mission” in life, whatever that might be.
How did I get here? How did this dream, which seemed almost impossible, come true?
Well, I took it one day at a time. Each day, I did one little thing, a baby step if you like, which brought me closer to my goal. This is exactly what prompted me to talk about the “here and now”.
The “here and now” is an old oriental idea. In the western world, we have the tendency to “live” in the future or in the past. We seem to miss the present moment, the only moment when we can actually do something to improve our situation.
Obviously, we can learn so much from past experience. Thinking of past can help us to avoid mistakes. What is more, in order to create the future we want for us, we need to make plans and think of strategies that will bring us closer to our goal.
Nevertheless, living permanently in the past or in the future is a completely different thing. The past and the future only exist in our heads! There is nothing we can do to change what happened five minutes ago. Five minutes from now have not come yet. We have to wait for time to pass before we can act.
The most important moment of our whole life, the moment when creation is possible, is the present moment, the “here and now”!
When we live in the “here and now”, we can be totally focused on what we are doing. We can be present and give it a hundred per cent of our attention, a hundred per cent of our energy, a hundred per cent of our abilities. There will be no regrets. There will be no “I should have, would have, could have”. If it doesn’t happen the way we expected it to, we will be able to say “. I know I gave it my all. If it didn’t happen, it means it wasn’t meant to be. The universe has other plans for me”.
Living in the present moment frees us from feelings of guilt: We can be at peace with ourselves and with the world around us.
Finally, when we live in the “here and now”, we manage to realize big- or even grandiose – projects. Even endeavors that would seem daunting if we spent all our time projecting ourselves into the future thinking of all the difficulties and the obstacles we could bump into, how we will never get there because we are aiming too high or that it will take too long become feasible. If we are in the “here and now” we can just focus on what we can do today to help advance our project and, before we know it, we will be there.
It was Earl Nightingale who said, “Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway”.
So focus all your energy on what you can do today and let the universe do the rest!
